Woodbridge resident Trent Hocog, 29, is facing charges following a strange situation that played out involving a pedestrian and SUV driver that ultimately resulted in a robbery, police say.
Members of the Prince William County Police Department were called late in the afternoon on Friday, Nov. 8, where there was a reported pedestrian who was struck by a swerving driver who purportedly struck his arm in the 3000 block of Richmond Highway.
Initially, Hocog stated that he was walking along the roadway when a white SUV swerved and struck his arm. He further alleged that after a brief conversation with the driver, she drove off, calling in her account of what happened to the sheriff's office while doing so.
While sorting out the separate stories, police say that the responding deputy observed signs of intoxication while speaking with Hocog, then the full story came out.
According to the SUV driver, while she was driving, her passenger mirror was struck, breaking it, prompting her to pull over, where she was approached by Hocog, who stated his walking stick was hit and demanding cash as compensation.
During that exchange, Hocog allegedly took two $100 bills from the driver, at which point she drove away "due to being scared."
Armed with that new information, the deputy confronted Hocog, who would deny it at first, though he was found in possession of just under $200. Further investigation also found that he had recently purchased cigarettes using a $100 bill, "explaining the current money in his possession."
Hocog was charged with destruction of property, felony stealing property from a person, and public intoxication. He's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
